Pop star Justin Timberlake has been slapped with a lawsuit accusing the "SexyBack" singer of treating employees at his famous Southern Hospitality BBQ & Bar in New York City unfairly.
A busboy at the former boy band member's upper East Side barbecue joint claims in his lawsuit filed in a New York court on Friday that he wasn't paid a living wage during the year he spent working at the restaurant. Apparently, it wasn't just 26-year-old Felipe Ramales who was cheated from a fair share of the gratuity charges that were applied automatically to tables of six or more, other fellow employees were given the same treatment. Ramales also alleged that even though he frequently worked over 40 hours a week, he was paid no overtime.
In response to the lawsuit, restaurant manager Chris Russell insisted the staff took home all their tips and that employee salaries were well over America's minimum wage, E! Online reported.
Seeking unspecified damages the suit also names Timberlake's business partners Eytan Sugarman and Trace Ayala as fellow owners and as running the operations of the BBQ eatery.
Other celebrities such as Robert De Niro and rapper Jay-Z have also been sued in connection with their businesses.
A former waitress at New York City’s Jay-Z owned 40/40 Club has accused the club of keeping a cut of workers’ tips and "willfully failing and refusing to pay them at the legally required minimum wage" and overtime since the Chelsea hotspot opened in 2003. Other employees also claimed they were forced to pay for bottle breakages out of their own pockets and were told they had to pick up the tab on patrons who walked out without paying.
Two former waiters employed by a Manhattan restaurant chain partly owned by De Niro sued the chain of restaurants for failing to pay overtime and unfairly splitting tips.
Although there was no immediate comment from Justin Timberlake's reps, the news of the lawsuit did not seem to affect the pop singer's humorous performance on NBC's long-running show "Saturday Night Live" this weekend. Dressed in leotards and heels, Timberlake, alongside Andy Samberg, SNL's new guy appeared in a skit as Beyonce's dancers for her "Single Ladies" video.
After performing some very enthusiastic dance moves, Beyonce, who tries dancing with the three brothers, becomes annoyed with the boys by the end of the shoot. She decides not to use them for the video but agrees to dance with them for the fun of it.
Timberlake also joined Seth Meyers for Weekend Update where he spent two minutes telling the audience how a Thanksgiving SNL show would be if he hosted it.
