Contrary to many reports, Justin Timberlake and his former flame Britney Spears will not be recording a duet, said a rep for the singer rejecting the rumors.
Rumors about Britney and Justin teaming up to record a song together have resurfaced recently prompting a rep for Justin to strongly deny the reports.
According to Justin's publicist, he "is not scheduled to be in the recording studio with Britney," as reported by Access Hollywood. The pop stars have not sung together publicly since they shared a stage with Aerosmith, Nelly and Mary J. Blige at the 2001 Superbowl, during Justin’s N*Sync days.
In the past, Justin and Britney were supposed to collaborate on a track for the troubled singer's latest album "Blackout," but she reportedly failed to show up for a scheduled recording session at Timbaland’s Virginia Beach studio, PageSix reported. The song would've meant a great comeback for the singer who is currently trying to revive her musical career. She recently told OK! magazine in her first interview in two years that she was working on a new album due in six to nine months.
The Justin-Britney duet rumor has been making the rounds on and off for years – pretty much since the two broke up, more so since Britney's divorce and her career downfall.
The context has always been in the lines of Britney needing someone to "save" her (or her career) or get things back on track. Justin once angrily asked a paparazzo why he was the one who was always expected to save her, especially considering they had been broken up for years by the time she had her breakdown.
However, it does not seem like the two are mortal enemies anymore, in spite of the snub Justin gave Britney at a Robin Thicke concert recently.
Going out recently, Britney incidentally ended up in the same club as her ex, who was on a date with his current girlfriend and rumored fiancée, actress Jessica Biel.
"Britney was smiling and singing along to songs," a witness told In Touch magazine. "She kept eyeing Justin but stopped short of actually walking over to say hello. Justin kept his back to her. She was obviously waiting for him to turn around, but he never did!"
When the concert was over, Jessica and Justin left together, while Britney exited in the opposite direction.
