From pop superstar to actor and now fashion icon, Justin Timberlake’s impact on fashion was recognized by GQ magazine in its March issue.
The magazine picked the entertainer to lead a list of the “10 Most Stylish Men in America.” It singled out Timberlake, who helped launch trends like hats, three-piece suits, beards and skinny ties, for his influence on fashion and willingness to take risks.
The 28-year-old singer, whose fashion line called William Rast, launched in October 2006, is doing pretty well, has always been noted for looking very put together, even when wearing a T-shirt and jeans.
With his Fall 2009 collection, which launched during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Timberlake hasn’t only brought “sexy” back, he also reinvented denim, focusing his attention on jeans, jean jackets and jean shirts in acid-wash denim with embellishments like studs, badges and fringes.
Numerous celebrities including Cameron Diaz, Paris Hilton and Eddie Murphy, have been seen wearing items from Timberlake's clothing line.
For the featured GQ interview, Justin took the reporter to the golf course and spent a round talking fashion.
Asked about his sources of inspiration, Timberlake credited his step-dad, banker Paul Harless, who went to work looking “like Richard Gere in [American] Gigolo,” Timberlake recalled.
“I just put sneakers on because I couldn't dance in the shoes I had,” he says. “I couldn't leap with just insoles and dress shoes. I would've hurt myself.”
Asked for his style icon, he chooses Kate Moss because she “could put a barrel on and it would be some sort of statement.”
Other “Stylish Men” include Kanye West, T.I., Jason Schwartzman, hotelier Andre Balazs and photographer Alexi Lubomirski.
