Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said in a statement issued by the US Supreme Court that her surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York was “a complete, successful surgical removal of a pancreatic cancer,” and that she will start chemotherapy later this month at the National Institutes of Health.
“The treatments, which will commence in late March, are not expected to affect my schedule at the court. Thereafter, it is anticipated that I will require only routine examinations to assure my continuing good health,” the statement further read.
Last month, Justice Ginsburg had surgery for pancreatic cancer. Justice Ginsburg had her cancer identified in late January during a routine annual physical examination carried out at the National Institute of Health’s Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The computed tomography performed on her revealed the tumor was 1 cm in diameter and was located in the center of the pancreas.
Given the fact that the cancer was caught in its early stages, she was given a good prognosis. Therefore, she returned to court sooner than expected announcing that she had no intention to retire due to her condition.
Justice Ginsburg was diagnosed with colon cancer 1999, underwent an operation and returned to the court without missing a single day of oral arguments.
