Neil Entwistle, the man who was accused of killing his wife Rachel
and 9-month-old daughter, Lillian Rose in their Hopkinton home, was convicted
Wednesday of shooting his family.
According to The Associated Press, the jurors convicted
Entwistle of two counts of first-degree murder and two weapons charges. He is
very likely to be sentenced to life in prison, without the possibility of
parole. Apparently, the defense tried to change the course of trial and, in the
last days of the trial, Entwislte’s lawyers had a new story for what it had
happened. They said that Entwistle’s wife had killed her daughter and then she committed
suicide.
The jurors were not convinced with the defense’s case and
decided to convict Entwistle.
After hearing the decision, his parents were still sure that
he was innocent.
“We know that our son Neil is innocent, and we are
devastated to learn that the evidence points to Rachel murdering our grandchild
and then committing suicide,” said Yvonne Entwistle, according to The
Associated Press.
On the other hand, District Attorney Gerry Leone said that
Entwistle’s try to blame his wife was condemnable.
“I condemn Neil Entwistle for compounding the unspeakable
nature of what he has done by disparaging the memory of his wife,” said Leone.
Entwistle and his wife met in England in 1999. They lived there
for a couple of years and then they moved in the U.S. in order to raise their
daughter. Entwistle soon lost his job and failed at some Internet businesses.
The prosecutors said that Entwistle was in debt and dissatisfied with his life
and became more and more hopeless. His situation led to the killing of her
daughter and wife. After the Jan. 20, 2006, killings, he returned to England. For two
years he said the same story that he had found his family dead and went back
home find some comfort in his parents.
While the prosecutors called more than 40 witnesses, the
defense called none.
Entwistle’s sentence will be given on Thursday.
