According to the state media military junta rejected the
plan of three-way talks of the UN saying that it won’t allow any interference
in its sovereignty.
Myanmar Information Minister Brigadier General Kyaw Hsan
told the UN envoy Ibrahim Gambari: “If the Myanmar affairs are to be put on the
UNSC agenda and the UNSC is going to handle them, the body will also have to
handle the situations of the nations similar to or worse than Myanmar’s.”
Gambari arrived in Yangon
on Saturday for his second visit since the protests of the Buddhist’s monks
were suppressed in September.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moo sent out Mr. Gambari in
order hold talks with Suu Kyi and military supremo Senior General Than Shwe, to
release the political prisoners, students and to urge the government to take
“democratic measures.”
The UN pressures military junta to national reconciliation since
the crackdown of the protest held by monks in September that led to 10 dead
although others claim that the number of victims is higher, almost 200.
Mr. Ban expressed his concerns regarding the weak results he
received from Mr. Gambari.
It seemed like Mr. Gamabri would leave on Thursday without
seeing Gen. Than Shwe, chief of junta. Mr. Gambari proposed for a meeting with
Ms. Suu Kyi and Aung Kyi, but Gen Kyaw told him that is imposible at the
moment.
According to BBC News Kyaw Hsan said: “We will welcome
positive co-ordination and co-operation for Myanmar
[Burma]
affairs, but will never accept any interference that may harm our sovereignty. I
would like you to know that Myanmar
is a small nation and if a big power bullies her with its influence by putting Myanmar’s
affairs on UNSC [UN Security Council], we will have no other way but to face
and endure."
On Friday and Saturday Suu Kyi was treated at her home for a
minor illness, according to a person familiar with her condition.
Myint Thein, a spokesman for her National League for
Democracy party said that “from looking at her physical condition it can be
assumed it is not very serious.”
