Josh Groban’s holiday album “Noel” remained on the top of The Billboard 200 this week, moving 539,000 copies in the U. S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
It was a slow sales week for albums in the U. S. and baritone singer Josh Groban remained in the top spot for a second consecutive week, with “Noel” selling a reported 539,000 copies, a 33% increase in sales according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Groban’s sales for “Noel” now amount to more than 1.5 million copies in eight weeks on the chart.
Second place went to the Eagles’ “Long Road Out of Eden,” climbing three places and moving 313,000 copies. The band’s first studio album in nearly three decades debuted at No. 1 in early November, with 711,000 sold units.
In its fifth week in stores, “Eden” has sold close to 1.8 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan; it is also the only non-holiday set to see an increase in the Top 20.
Alicia Keys' “As I Am” slipped to No. 3 with 257,000 units, while hits compilation “Now 26” slipped to No. 4 with 127,000 sold copies.
Garth Brooks' set “The Ultimate Hits” sold a modest 112,000 copies, at No. 5 and the soundtrack to Disney's “High School Musical 2” kept its No. 6 position with 98,000.
Miley Cyrus' Disney double-disc set “Hannah Montana 2 (Soundtrack)/Meet Miley Cyrus” re-entered the top 10 with 96,000 sold units, and Celine Dion’s “Taking Chances,” her first studio album since 2003's “One Heart,” sold 93,000 units at No. 8.
Carrie Underwood's “Carnival Ride” occupies the ninth position after selling 89,000. Mannheim Steamroller’s “Christmas Song” was especially sought after this week, with a 24% increase, and sold 77,000.
Rapper Pitbull’s “The Boatlift” marked the week’s biggest debut, with 22,000 to open at No. 50. Mudvayne's “By the People for the People” debuted at No. 51 with 21,500 copies sold in its first week.
Only the top five discs posted sales above 100,000.
