This year’s VMAs keep making headlines and, surprisingly, not all of them are about Britney Spears. While the pop princess regained her crown by smiling and being a born-again good girl, another American idol, the official one, Jordin Sparks made a comment that left everybody stunned. And to think that this used to be Brit’s job at the VMAs.
The young singer was not only trying to defend the Jonas Brothers, who were constantly mocked by the show’s host, the British guy with an odd sense of humor Russell Brand, because of their purity rings and their vow to remain untainted until marriage. She also felt offended herself, as she is the proud owner of a purity ring as well.
"It's not bad to wear a promise ring because not everybody – guy or girl – wants to be a slut." This is what she said trying to speak-out for all the virgins out there, and she doesn’t regret it all that much, as we can see in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly. "I wish I would’ve worded it differently – that somebody who doesn’t wear a promise ring isn't necessarily a slut – but I can't take it back now," Sparks, 18, told the magazine.
Well, Jordin, you did, and now the other half of the planet is offended. So being an unmarried non-virgin does not necessarily make you a slut, but what? It could? Yes, of course, maybe Russell Brand crossed the line a bit, but he is an alleged sex-addict and a comedian, and British, and, besides, the Jonas Brothers shouldn’t care about his mockery; they should turn the other cheek, as the Bible says.
But when a sweet girl, talented, but not funny in the entertain-thousands-of-people way, makes a comment like that, calling all non virgins sluts, 90% of the celebrities are bound to feel a sudden discomfort sitting in their velvet seats.
