Jordin Sparks, proud winner of the sixth season of “American Idol,” has signed a recording contract with 19 Recordings/Jive Records and is ready to make her mark in the music industry.
Jordin Sparks drew a large following as the vivacious contestant with an undeniably good voice. She then went on to become the youngest winner the reality television show ever had during its six seasons.
The 17-year-old Glendale, AZ, native has now signed a deal with the Zomba Label Group and she is the first “American Idol” contestant to do so. Previous singers on the show have signed with RCA Label Group labels such as J, Arista and RCA.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the partnership with 19 Recordings and Jordin Sparks as the first ‘Idol’ winner to make her home at Jive,” Barry Weiss, CEO and president of Zomba Label Group, said in a statement. “Her poise, her amazing vocal ability, her relentless optimism has been apparent to millions of fans all around the world. We’re honored to have this burgeoning worldwide superstar on Jive Records.”
Clive Davis, Chairman of BMG, U.S., said: “Jordin is a terrific young singer who has found a great home at Jive. Barry and his successful team know how to patiently nurture career artists, and Jordin Sparks hints of a legacy and longevity waiting to be fulfilled.”
Barry Weiss has been CEO and president of Jive Records since 1991.
Jordin’s first single, titled “Tattoo,” will be released to U.S. radio on August 27, while her debut album is slated for a November 2007 release. The album was produced by Stargate (who previously wrote songs for Béyonce, Ne-Yo and Elliott Yamin) and co-written with Amanda Ghost (James Blunt’s “Beautiful” and “Beautiful Liar” with Beyonce and Shakira).
“‘American Idol’ has truly been a life-altering experience,” the young singer said in a statement. “I can't wait to share this next chapter of my story with all the fans that have supported me so far.”
Previous “American Idol” contestants have signed recording deals: Carrie Underwood and Taylor Hicks with Arista, Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, Clay Aiken and Katherine McPhee with RCA and Fantasia and Ruben Studdard with J.
Simon Fuller, creator of “American Idol” and manager of 19 Recordings, agrees with Clive Davis on Jordin’s talent: “You couldn’t find a better match in or out of this business than Jive Records, 19 Recordings and Jordin Sparks.”
