New Jersey-based American boy band “Jonas Brothers” is once again in the spotlight! Nominated at the VMA, they are most famous for their appearances on the television network the Disney Channel, dedicated to children. The three brothers are Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas. As a band, they have released a total of three albums: It’s About Time - 2006, Jonas Brothers - 2007 and A Little Bit Longer - 2008.
Their fame is also due to the fact that they are a unique phenomenon in an increasingly sexualized society.
The three boys all wear “purity rings”, a sign of the Evangelical Christian Church. The rings stand for physical and spiritual purity and work as a vow that the three stars will not have premarital sex.
During the VMAs, comedian Russell Brand took a few shots at the brothers for wearing these purity rings, yet apologized afterwards.
The Jonas Brothers said it was their choice to wear the rings and take this vow, after their parents asked them if it was something they were interested in. These guys are clearly not your run-of-the-mill average boy band and you won’t be seeing them too often on the covers of tabloids, either – their purity rings also mean that they’re not touching alcohol, tobacco or drugs.
Recently, it has been confirmed that on Thanksgiving Day, the Jonas Brothers will perform during halftime of the Dallas Cowboys - Seattle Seahawks game. Also, they will also play in the opening of the 2008 Salvation Army Red Kettle Christmas campaign, which begins on November 27th and lasts until Christmas Eve. The Jonas Brothers will have some large shoes to fill, as in the past years the halftime performers included Sheryl Crow and LeAnn Rimes.
