The hottest and most popular group of teenage heartthrobs of
the moment, the Jonas Brothers, made the best out of their Sunday sold-out gig
at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre. They proved once again they should not
be credited only for making 12-year-olds faint and 16-year-olds scream. Of
course, the faints and screams did not lack. But they did have quite a
performance, while the tickets to the show were almost reaching Miley
Cyrus-like huge prices.
Nick, 15, Joe, 19, and Kevin Jonas, 20, showed they’ve got
what it takes to make the crowds go crazy. Notwithstanding the fact that the
age segment of their admirers rarely surpasses 17 and that their fans are
predominantly girls, they did show everyone that the Jonas Brothers is a group
that means more than just three pretty faces and teenage icons.
They’ve got talent, too, although they usually aren’t
acclaimed for their musical aptitudes.
Among desperate girlish shouts and cries, the bros were able
to prove Chicago
they were much more than some ‘N Sync wannabes. The youngest member of the
group played the hit “A Little Bit Longer” alone on the grand piano, while Joe belted
“Gotta Find You” over his brothers’ sparse acoustic guitar work.
Their on-stage performance was accompanied by a really good
backing band, complete with six violins and two cellos, also leaving sufficient
space and time for some gymnastics and tap dancing.
The show did have several minuses, such as the not-so-good
cover of country singer Shania Twain’s “I’m Gonna Getcha Good,” but the screams
and rounds of applauses made the incident pass unnoticed.
