Jon Heder has signed to star alongside Kirsten Bell in the
Disney romantic comedy “When in Rome,”
trade paper Variety reports.
David Diamond and David Weissman penned the script. Mark
Steven Johnson will direct the feature for Disney, according to Variety.
Bell plays Beth, a successful
New York curator
at the Guggenehim who has no luck in love. She finds herself traveling to Rome, to attend her
younger sister’s surprise wedding, and unwittingly creates the onset of
adventure in her own life by picking up coins from a reputed “fountain of love.”
Back home, she is confronted with an overabundance of suitors waiting for her, the
trade paper reports.
Heder plays a street magician who uses his talents to try to
get the girl, per Variety, while Shepard plays a self-absorbed suitor who falls
under the spell and chases the girl.
Gary Foster, Andrew Panay and Rikki Bestall will produce,
and shooting begins shortly in New York and Rome.
The Hollywood Reporter adds that Josh Duhamel has signed on
to be the romantic lead, while Anjelica Huston will play Bell’s boss at the Guggenheim.
Heder made a name for himself with the portrayal of the geeky
title character in 2004’s “Napoleon Dynamite.” The actor most recently starred
in “Blades of Glory” and “Mama’s Boy.”
Shepard, of MTV show “Punk’d” fame, next stars in the
Universal comedy “Baby Mama” and Disney’s “Old Dogs.”
Kristen Bell first grabbed attention as the resourceful high
school detective Veronica Mars in the teen drama series of the same name, which
aired on UPN and then the CW, from fall of 2004 to May 2007.
Last year, she joined the uniquely gifted champions of NBC’s
drama series “Heroes,” and now she is making the leap to Hollywood
movies.
