John Travolta’s teenage son, Jett, died on Friday in the Bahamas after suffering a seizure during a family vacation, according to authorities.
A house caretaker discovered 16-year-old Jett in a bathroom at his family’s vacation home late on Friday morning. Although he was immediately transported by an ambulance to a Freeport hospital, he was subsequently pronounced dead, Superintendent Basil Rahming of the Freeport police announced in a statement.
The teenager, who had a history of seizures, was the eldest child of Academy Award-nominated actor John Travolta and his wife, actress Kelly Preston. The couple also have an 8-year-old daughter, Ella Bleu. An autopsy is planned for Jett Travolta, John Travolta’s attorney, Michael Ossi, told CNN.
The news network’s Web site cited Michael Ossi as saying that Jett’s death came abruptly and that it was the darkest day of the actor’s life.
Michael Ossi also said that the precise cause of death remained unclear and that the body of the 16-year-old would be buried in Ocala, Florida, following the autopsy.
John Travolta and his wife have explained that Jett fell very ill and almost passed away when he was only two. He was later diagnosed with Kawasaki Syndrome, a condition that can lead to inflammation of the blood vessels and even heart disease, show business news site TMZ.com reported. The condition mainly affects children under the age of five.
John Travolta’s family had arrived in the Bahamas on a private jet on Tuesday and was staying at their residence in the Old Bahama Bay resort community.
