John Travolta didn’t attend this year’s Golden Globe Awards after the shock he and his family had suffered earlier this month after the tragic death of his 16-year-old son, Jett. The actor was supposed to appear at the Oscar ceremonies in support of his last movie, “Bolt,” which was nominated for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, for the duet he performed together with Miley Cyrus, “Thought I Lost You.”
Jett Travolta died on January 2, while he and his family were in vacation in the Bahamas. The boy was found unconscious on the bathroom floor by a caretaker of the house. In spite of all the efforts John Travolta made to save him, Jett was pronounced dead when he arrived at the hospital.
A lot of reports filled the papers every day since then and the rumors said that he couldn’t have possibly died because of the seizure he had suffered. As Kelly Preston, the boy’s mother, said back in 2003, Jett had been diagnosed with the Kawasaki syndrome when he was only 2 years old. Apparently, the doctors cured him back then, but friends of the Travoltas say that Jett didn’t spend a lot of time talking.
This attracted the rumors about him having suffered from autism. Yet, neither John Travolta, nor Kelly Preston released any kind of information on the subject. They only posted a message on Travolta’s Web site, through which they thanked everybody for their support and announced their grief in front of all the actors’ fans.
Jett’s body was cremated last Monday and his ashes were brought to the U.S. The Travoltas also held a private memorial service on Thursday.
