John Lennon’s Solo Catalog To Debut On iTunes

Just few months after setting the digital music world on fire, by announcing the introduction of DRM free tracks on iTunes store, EMI and Apple had another surprise for the music lovers.

Starting today sixteen of Lennon's solo works from EMI Music are available on iTunes store, including "Lennon Legend" and "Acoustic" collections.

Also, Apple said that for a limited period of 30 days, the music fans who will buy the albums "John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band," "Sometime in New York City," "Walls and Bridges," "Milk and Honey" and the collections "Anthology" and "Working Class Hero.",will have also access to exclusive video content.

The songs are offered as DRM-free music tracks with high quality 256 kbps AAC encoding for audio quality virtually indistinguishable from the original recordings-for just $1.29 per song.

"John would have loved the fact that his music will now be available in a format suited to a new generation of listeners," said Yoko Ono.

Earlier this year, Paul McCartney signed as similar deal with Apple and all his solo songs are available as digital tunes on iTunes Music Store, including his latest album "Memory Almost Full."

"I'm thrilled to let fans experience (the new album) in a whole new way. There's no better time to make this music available through iTunes" said Paul McCartney at the time.

By having the songs of the two of the Fab Four available on its store, Apple has made one more step to adding the full Beatles catalog in its offer.

Last year, London-based Apple Corps Ltd. announced is digitally re-mastering the entire Beatles catalog for online sales.

Apple and Apple Corps Ltd., the company owned by Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and the families of George Harrison and John Lennon, had recently ended a lengthy trademark dispute over the use of the apple logo in connection with the online iTunes Music Store.

Shortly after the issue was solved, Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs expressed his wish to see Beatles’ songs on iTunes.

"We have always loved the Beatles, and hopefully we can now work together to get them on the iTunes Music Store.", he said.

It remains to be seen how long will last until Job’s wish will become reality.
