Wednesday night on David Letterman’s talk-show the “Late Show,” actor Joaquin Phoenix left the audience struck dumb with astonishment, committing blunders after blunders.
First, he forgot the name of his “Two Lovers” co-star Gwyneth Paltrow, then he stuck his gum under the talk-show host’s desk and to top it all, he seemed to had cursed at bandleader Paul Shaffer because the latter had laughed at him.
Obviously, the video featuring his appearance on the talk-show hit the web almost instantly and managed to become quite the sensation in a matter of hours.
Consequently, by Thursday evening, the video of Joaquin Phoenix’s interview had drawn over 180,000 viewers on the Youtube video sharing website.
The rife with moments of sheer silence interview prompted many, including David Letterman himself, to call forth a 1997 appearance of Farrah Fawcett on the „Late Show,” during which she was not only completely distracted, but for a few seconds, she also believed that Letterman's stage backdrop of a New York City skyline was real.
Joaquin Phoenix, 34, Puerto Rican film actor, musician and occasional rapper, made his big-screen debut in the 1986 production „Space Camp,” after which he went on to have a leading role in the movie „Russkies” one year later.
For his portrayal of Roman emperor Commodus in Ridley Scott's „Gladiator,” Phoenix earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Back in 2004, he was cast as Johnny Cash in „Walk the Line,” after having received Cash’s approval, while one year later, the role won him a Best Actor Oscar nomination and also a Golden Globe in 2006.
