British actor Jim Broadbent announced that he has joined the cast of the fourth Indiana Jones movie.
The 57-year-old actor, best known as Bridget Jones’s dad and as Professor Kirke in “The Chronicles of Narnia,” told BritFilms.tv website he had joined the cast of Indiana Jones IV.
Broadbent was promoting his next film, “And When Did You Last See Your Father?” when he revealed that he would appear in the Steven Spielberg-directed movie. “I'm doing a good cameo. I'm going to Yale - I'm a professor.”
Principal photography began Monday.
Broadbent joins an already amazing-sounding cast: Harrison Ford, Cate Blanchett, Shia LaBeouf, Ray Winstone and John Hurt. Speculation that Sean Connery would reprise his role as Indy’s father was put to rest by Connery last month when he said he had retired.
The British actor won an Academy Award for best supporting actor in 2001’s “Iris,” for his performance as John Bayley and a BAFTA Award for best actor in a supporting role for his role in “Moulin Rouge!” (2002) as Harold Zidler.
The as-yet-untitled fourth installment of the Indiana Jones series is slated for a May 2008 release. The previous three films, starring Harrison Ford as an adventurous archeologist, were released in 1981, 1984 and 1989, respectively.
