The life and death of John Travolta and Kelly Preston’s son, Jett, is still a mystery for many of us, especially considering the fact that dying from a seizure is something very rare. As a caretaker from the Bahamas said, the 16-year-old boy’s death certificate lists a seizure as the cause of death.
Yet, nobody from the family could be reached for further comments, a thing which leads even more to the fact that the boy’s disease and strokes were happening for many years. One of Travolta’s lawyers stated that Jett had a long history of seizures, but his father added that the doctors cured him at the age of 2, when he had been diagnosed with the Kawasaki syndrome.
Specialists in medicine told the Associated Press that the syndrome happens very rarely nowadays and that is poorly understood. They added that it’s a very slight chance that Jett might have died because of it.
So everybody turned to believe what it had been the clearest thing: the teen had autism. Yet, John Travolta strongly denies this fact, even if doctors said that this disorder is usually accompanied by seizures, which stem from the brain abnormalities, so causing the developmental disorder.
In addition, Dr. Michael Kohrman, a University of Chicago pediatric neurologist, said that many of the children who have autism also have a seizure disorder. But the causes for seizure are various and hard to find. They usually affect almost 3 million Americans and are caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
Still, Dr. Bruce Cohen, a staff neurologist at the Cleveland Clinic, stated that the sudden death connected to epilepsy may happen. He added that this kind of death can only happen within 15 or 20 minutes, if the medicine quits or the patients doesn’t take his medicines.
Cohen also said that nearly 1,000 patients who have epilepsy die every year from what doctors call “sudep.” This condition occurs when the patients have a sudden death, but with no sign of seizure.
One of Travolta’s lawyers, Michael Ossi, said that no one inside the family would discuss about the boy’s health condition or his illness. The boy’s body was cremated, but the report made at the autopsy wasn’t released yet.
Very little information came out of the Travolta family regarding their son. Yet, they are Scientologists, followers of this different religion to which more and more celebrities submit into. Tommy Davis, a spokesman for the Church of Scientology International in Los Angeles, stated that the Scientologists use to search for conventional medical treatment to cure their illness.
Most cases involving the Kawasaki syndrome usually take place in the first five years of the patient’s life. Dr. Cody Meissner, chief of pediatric infectious diseases at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, said that they are essentially cured if they are given aspirin and intravenous gamma globulin.
