Although things appeared to be going well between Jessica Simpson and her quarterback boyfriend, Tony Romo, recent reports say the two have called it quits.
According to celebrity gossip website TMZ.com, the pair who have been together since late last year, are no longer an item. Sources close to Romo, who was recently spotted partying sans Simpson in Chicago, said they overheard him bragging to his friends that he and Simpson are done.
"They’re broken up. He told us they broke up and that was that. We’re guys so we didn’t talk about it much," a friend of Tony reportedly said.
However, despite reports suggesting the relationship between Simpson and Romo was "as dead as the Cowboys' 2007 playoff run," the starlet's publicist denied the rumors, telling Access Hollywood there is "no truth" to them.
While their status isn't very clear for now, Usmagazine.com reported that on the same night Romo was out partying with his buddies, Simpson had her own share of fun throwing down cocktails at L.A.'s Mexicali Cocina with her pal, CaCee Cobb, and CaCee's boyfriend, Donald Faison.
The magazine speculated that Simpson suffered from intense jealousy pangs after reading about her ex John Mayer, 30, ad his latest romance with actress Jennifer Aniston, 39. The two have been spotted getting cozy in Miami, where Aniston is shooting "Marley & Me," twice over the last several weeks, before going public - holding hands and kissing affectionately - at the "Marley & Me" cast party.
The breakup rumors first emerged after Simpson overshared in an interview for June's issue of Glamour magazine, claiming she is "in love" with Tony, and referring to him as her "future husband."
She also talked freely about how Romo tried to kiss her on their first date, "The fact that this guy, on our first date, in the first 10 minutes of dinner, wanted to lean over the table and say, ‘This is my girl, and I want to kiss her’ — our first kiss in front of everybody — was awesome," she said.
Last year, while Simpson's relationship with Romo was in its early stages, the bombshell was branded a jinx by Cowboy fans after the team failed to go further during the NFL playoffs.
"Crazy what everybody said," Jessica told Extra, adding, "I didn't feel I needed to comment on it. I didn't know that me wearing a number nine jersey would ever have that much power."
