Jessica Simpson landed in Kuwait where she is set to perform alongside the Pussycat Dolls, Disturbed, Filter and DJ Z-Trip, in a three-hour charity show for the troops which will be broadcast live on MySpace.com.
"I haven't really got a lot of sleep, I tell ya," the 27-year-old singer told the camera for the Today show as a group of U.S. soldiers surrounded her in the background.
"I am in Kuwait, I'm enjoying all the troops – having a blast, signing autographs, meeting them, showing all the support I can," she added.
However, some sources close to Simpson's camp claim that the starlet is receiving special treatment, as she was flown to Kuwait on a private plane, together with her father, stylist and makeup artist, who are charging over $6,000 a day, while the jet cost a whopping $150,000.
"This isn’t a charity show. The people around Jessica aren’t donating their time or cutting their rates as if this was Jess’s charity Operation Smile. Someone is picking up the tab, and it’s not going to be Jessica," a source was quoted by MSNBC as saying.
Following Monday's concert, Simpson will be spending her time talking to the troops, who are in Kuwait in anticipation of being deployed to Iraq, before her plane takes off. Simpson was voted the act they most wanted to see.
"Literally, she’s going to sing ‘These Boots Are Made for Walking,’ and she’s going to be walking herself right back onto that plane," the source added.
"It’s truly an honor to perform for the troops," Simpson said recently. "Through Operation MySpace, I get to serve my country by doing what I love to do in front of thousands of brave men in uniform. It’s every girl’s dream!"
"We're so excited to be performing for the troops and supporting our Armed Forces overseas. They'd better get ready...the desert's about to get a lot hotter!" The Pussycat Dolls added.
