Nobody said it was easy and Jessica Simpson found out first
hand that foraying into country music may not be as simple as pop has been,
with some in the crowd attending the Country Thunder USA Festival in Randall, Wisc.
on Saturday booing her.
Jessica Simpson was unfortunately booed by some of the event’s
attendees when she walked onto the stage Saturday, following “American idol”
finalist Kellie Pickler’s performance.
While her clothing style was as much country-inspired as the
next – white button-down shirt, cowboy boots and Daisy Dukes, her music
apparently did not set the audience in any good mood, as reported by the
Kenosha News.
The pop star is currently dating Cowboys quarterback Tony
Romo, a Wisconsin native. Their relationship has not been a very private one
and Simpson attempted to assuage the crowd by telling them she was “just a girl
from Texas.”
“I don’t know what your perception is of Jessica Simpson or
what tabloid you buy, but I just want you to know that I’m just a girl from
Texas; I’m just like you,” Simpson bravely told the crowd, according to the
Kenosha News. “I’m doing what I love and dating a boy.”
While on stage, Jessica Simpson performed covers of Willie
Nelson and Shania Twain hits, as well as songs from her new album “Do You Know,”
out Sept. 9.
Tony Romo was not in the audience to offer support.
Fan Mary Grace, 24, told the Kenosha News she liked her
country songs “better,” as she “has a great voice, plus, she’s adorable.”
Another concertgoer, Adam Matos, 21, was somewhat ruthless
in his own review. “I just don’t hear the country in her; I don't hear the
twang. She’s not good enough to be here.”
Well now, we can’t please everyone, can we?
“Come on Over,” the first single off her album, debuted at
No. 41 in May, with Jessica Simpson becoming the highest-charting debut solo
artist in the history of the Billboard Country Singles Chart.
