Hollywood couples come and go, even John Mayer and Jessica Simpson who were once a couple said to be going strong, but the two have reportedly called it quits.  

While the buxom singer/actress made an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival looking like she was having a great time, the split happened very recently.

"They officially called it quits this past weekend," a well placed source told PerezHilton.com. "They'd been having problems for a while now and just decided it'd be better to end things."

The breakup will come as a surprise for many, including Jessica’s father, and manager, who just several days ago gave his personal approval to his daughter’s relationship with Mayer saying he “loves� him.

"If Jessica is in love, I love the things she is in love with,� he said.

"I want her to be happy. I'm always a fan of John. I love him - he's got great music."

"I think the beautiful thing is that (he and Jessica) don't do the same thing. He's a legend already. There is no competition. He's a guitarist, that's his thing. Jessica is a singer. She doesn't play guitar, so there's no competition," he added.

The rocker reportedly wasted no time enjoying his single life, partying with his friends in a New York City club on Thursday night.
