Wednesday, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed that Jennifer Hudson would be singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida on February 1, after E! News reported Tuesday that she was the most likely to perform at the event.
This would mark Hudson’s first public appearance since her 57-year-old mother Darnell Hudson Donerson, 29-year-old brother Jason Hudson and 7-year-old nephew Julian King were murdered in Chicago in October.
The estranged husband of Jennifer’s sister Julia, William Balfour, has been charged with the three murders.
Jennifer Hudson will also be performing at the Grammys’ MusiCares event in Los Angeles a few days after the Super Bowl kicks off.
Bruce Springsteen is also scheduled to perform at the Super Bowl during halftime of the pro football championship game.
Former “American Idol” contestant Jennifer Hudson, 27, won an Academy Award for best supporting actress for her role in the movie „Dreamgirls” and appeared in other productions such as „Sex and the City” and „The Secret Life of Bees.”
Before the slayings of her mother, brother and nephew occurred, she had released her debut album. Called “Jennifer Hudson,” the later features many household names in the music industry such as Ne-Yo, who wrote “Spotlight,” the first single, Timbaland (with whom she collaborated on the „Pocketbook” track), Missy Elliott, Diane Warren, Christopher "Tricky" Stewart, Robin Thicke and Harvey Mason.
Hudson received four nominations for the Grammy Awards that are set to take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 8.
