Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson has proven to the world
she has the voice and charisma needed, despite being booted off “American Idol,”
and is now ready to release her debut album.
Jennifer Hudson famously finished seventh on the third season
of “American Idol” in 2004 and just as famously received an Academy Award for
best supporting actress in 2006 for her portrayal of Effie White in “Dreamgirls.”
The Oscar was the cherry on the cake for 26-year-old Hudson,
who received an impressive array of awards for her aforementioned role, including
a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award and a BAFTA Award.
She has also pursued an acting career, most recently
appearing as Carrie Bradshaw’s assistant, Louise, in “Sex and the City: The Movie,”
which opens May 30 in the U. S.
She will also appear in “Winged Creatures,” a film based on
the novel by Roy Freirich, alongside Kate Beckinsale, Forest Whitaker, Guy
Pearce and Dakota Fanning, and in “The Secret Life of Bees,” with Queen Latifah
and Dakota Fanning.
Hudson
is enjoying a burgeoning acting career but she has not forgotten her first
love, music.
Come September, fans will be able to buy her self-titled
debut album, which arrives via Arista Records. The first single, “Spotlight,” hits
U.S.
radio outlets in June, her label said on Monday.
The song, about a difficult romantic relationship, was
composed by R&B songwriter and vocalist Ne-Yo. He co-produced along with Norwegian
production duo Stargate. Hudson
also collaborated with Timbaland, Robin Thicke, the Underdogs, Diane Warren and
Christopher “Tricky” Stewart on her album.
A message on the singer’s MySpace posted May 17 addresses “all
my friends here on MySpace that have supported me faithfully,” promising the album
“will have a great variety” and will present “the many sides of Jennifer as an
artist and vocalist.”
“It shows sides of me i have always wanted to share and now
the opportunity has finally arrived,” she continues, and gives thanks once
again “for supporting me and for being so patient.”
More music will be heard from Hudson with the release of the soundtrack to “Sex
and the City: The Movie,” on May 27.
