Jennifer Hudson did her best to attend the Grammy Awards ceremony on Sunday night and her effort was indeed rewarded.
The 27-year-old artist, who suffered a terrible loss last year, was honored with the prize for best R&B album for her self-titled debut. During her acceptance speech, the singer said that she was very grateful for her win and she thanked God for helping her recover from the painful moments she had gone through. In addition, Jennifer Hudson thanked her “family in heaven and those who are with me today.”
The artist, who also won an Academy Award for her role in 2006’s “Dreamgirls,” stepped on the red carpet at the Grammys accompanied by her fiancé, David Otunga. She told Access Hollywood that in spite of the fact that the past several months had been very tough, she was grateful for her fans and friends’ support. In addition, she explained that the love, affection and compassion of the people surrounding her felt “overwhelming.”
Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and young nephew were murdered last fall and the incident echoed internationally. Nevertheless, the singer said it felt very important to attend the ceremony, because “this is what I’ve always dreamt of.” Moreover, she told Access Hollywood that she was very “excited” about her performance at the Grammys.
Jennifer Hudson performed “You Pulled Me Through” from her winning album.
