Probably the best way for Jennifer Hudson to recover from the tragic loss of her family members is to get back to work and continue the string of stunning performances she has gotten everyone used to.
After making a triumphant return to the stage with her Super Bowl performance, and after a stellar performance on Sunday night at the Grammy Awards, fans are certainly excited for the Oscar and newly minted Grammy winner to get back to singing.
The “American Idol” alum announced she is ready to hit the road on a solo tour featuring R&B singer Robin Thicke. The tour will kick off on April 2 with a gig in Philadelphia and will last five full weeks ending in Houston.
Other stops include Baltimore, Washington, D.C, New York City, Detroit, Atlanta, Memphis, St. Louis, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Dallas before wrapping may 8 in Houston.
Hudson, whose self-titled debut album was released in September, won the award for Best R&B Album -- the first award presented during CBS' live broadcast of the ceremony at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. Upon receiving the award from Whitney Houston, the third-season Idol finalist reacted with shock and tears before thanking her family.
”I don't really know what to say! First of all I got Whitney Houston presenting to me and, wow, I'm just in awe right now,” Hudson said. “I first would like to thank God, who has brought me through. I would like to thank my family -- [those] in heaven and those who are here today.”
Hudson’s mother and older brother were shot dead in their home in Chicago in October last year while her nephew was found dead in a parked car, several days later.
Speaking to People after the ceremony, the singer said she was grateful for her first Grammy award and her first tour, “It doesn't get better than that," she added.
Close friend and co-star in “Dreamgirls,” actor Jamie Foxx, previously stated he is offering all his support and was ready to accompany Hudson on the road.
“She's doing well. She says she wants to get back into the flow of things. Hopefully, we will go out on tour together and, you know, heal the world with our music,” he shared.
