On February 1, in Tampa, Florida, when the Super Bowl kicked off, Jennifer Hudson lip-synched through her rendition of the national anthem.
The performance at the Super Bowl was Hudson’s first one since her mother, brother and nephew were slain back in October.
At that time, Darnell Hudson Donerson, aged 57, mother to Jennifer Hudson and Jason S. Hudson, 29, who was the second victim, were found shot to death at the mother’s home on the South Side of Chicago.
A few days later, Julian King’s body was found in the West Side neighborhood inside an SUV, while soon after, in a vacant lot from the same neighborhood, authorities discovered the .45-caliber gun that was used in the three murders.
In December, the Chicago police revealed that they had charged Jennifer Hudson’s brother-in-law William Balfour with the murders of the actress-singer’s mother, brother and nephew.
After the Super Bowl, the show's producer, „American Idol” music director Ricky Minor, stated for the Associated Press that he had asked Jennifer Hudson to lip-synch the anthem to a previously recorded track.
Minor also revealed that he had requested that both Hudson and Faith Hill, who performed „America the Beautiful” before the Oscar-winning singer-actress, sing to the pre-recorded tracks.
The NFL requires that the pre-recorded tracks be submitted one week previous to the game.
Jennifer Hudson, 27, has also been scheduled to make an appearance at the Grammy Awards on February 8. The singer has yet to discuss the turmoil she has been going through for some months in public.
