Academy Award winning singer/actress Jennifer Hudson will join the cast of “Sex and the City: The Movie.”
Variety reports that “American Idol” contestant Jennifer Hudson will grace the long awaited “Sex and the City: The Movie” with her presence. Hudson will reportedly play personal assistant to sex columnist/fashionista/main character Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker.
At nearly 26 (her birthday is on Sept. 12), Jennifer Hudson has come a long way over a very short period of time.
She participated on the third season of “American Idol,” in 2004, and finished the competition in seventh place. In 2005, the singer, who had no previous acting experience, was cast in the role of Effie White, in the musical “Dreamgirls.”
Hudson played alongside Beyoncé Knowles, Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy and Anika Noni Rose. She received a Golden Globe Award as Best Actress in a Supporting Role, a BAFTA Award for Actress in a Supporting Role, an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and numerous other prestigious prizes.
The four sexy ladies that made the HBO comedy series a hit, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon, have all signed to star in the movie.
The film is being made by New Line in association with HBO. Actor Chris Noth, who played Mr. Big in the series, also returns for the big screen. The show's longtime executive producer, Michael Patrick King, is set to write and direct, reports Variety.
Shooting begins in New York on Sept. 19.
The film will be produced by King with Parker, John Melfi and Darren Star, creator of the series.
Hudson recently completed work on the drama “Winged Creatures,” starring Academy Award winner Forrest Whitaker. The cast includes Guy Pearce, Kate Beckinsale, Dakota Fanning and Jeanne Tripplehorn.
