Jennifer Kate Hudson got engaged. The American actress, singer and model received the engagement ring right on her 27th birthday.

Hudson’s beau, David Otunga, asked the actress if she wanted to be his wife during the celebration of her birthday in Los Angeles on Friday, according to her publicist Jessica Kolstad, The Associated Press reported.

The two lovebirds haven’t set a wedding date yet.

For those of you who do not know, David Otunga is a Harvard Law School graduate and was known for his contestant role as “Punk” in “I Love New York 2.”

Both Hudson and Otunga have been dating for less than a year and are both Chicago residents. Hudson, who won a best supporting actress Oscar last year for her role in "Dreamgirls," had dated her childhood friend James Payton for nearly 8 years before hooking up with Otunga.

This surely is a great year for Jennifer Hudson. Apart from getting engaged, she landed two film-acting roles in “Sex and the City” and “The Secret Lives of Bees” (due in theaters Oct. 17).

The singer often credited with a six-octave vocal range will soon release her debut solo album. The release date for “American Idol” alum’s album was scheduled for September 30.
