Police are searching for a man who opened fire inside a credit union and then fled the scene in a stolen car this morning (Wednesday).
Jefferson County Sheriff's office spokesman Jim Shires said the incident didn’t caused any injury or death and it is not known yet whether the escape vehicle was stolen from the Bellco Credit Union.
The SWAT team arrived at the bank as soon as possible and brought all the people in the bank, including employees and patrons, out of the building in order to carry out a final sweep.
The first call to report the shots to the local police was made at 9:11 a.m.
The first shot fired wasn’t aimed at anybody in particular according to Sandra Sagehorn, the bank’s vice president of customer service. The gunman reportedly entered the bank shortly after it had been opened, fired the shot and told everybody to get on the floor. However, the reports about how many shots the gunman fired are conflicting, Shires said.
According to an initial report, there was a second suspect in the bank, but the SWAT team didn’t find anybody else inside while carrying the sweep. The reports on this matter were also conflicting.
"When someone walks into a bank and fires a shot it shows that the suspect is more willing than others to take whatever means he feels are necessary to accomplish his goals. It's very dangerous situation," said Shires.
Police investigators still haven’t interviewed all the people who were in the bank when the shot or shots were fired. After the interviews will be carried out, the investigators will most likely know what really happened in there. According to the sheriff's spokeswoman Jacki Kelley, there were reports of "questionable" behavior by some of the bank patrons but she could not give details.
