Young Jeezy’s album “The Recession” hit the first position
on this week’s Billboard album chart, followed by New Kids on the Block's “The
Block” and rapper The Game’s “LAX” albums.
The Atlanta gangsta rapper went a bit political on “The
Recession,” campaigning for the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee Barack
Obama.
The album sold 260,000 copies during the week that ended on
September 7, Nielsen SoundScan informs, while „The Block” lagged behind with
only 95,000 copies sold.
This is not Jeezy’s first album to peak at number one. In
2006, his album called „The Inspiration” topped the chart.
Kid Rock and Slipknot also scored a good position in this
week’s album chart, the former’s “Rock N Roll Jesus” reaching number four,
while the latter’s „Roadrunner” fell to fifth place.
Jonas Brothers’ „A Little Bit Longer” came in sixth.
Young Jeezy, whose real name is Jay Jenkins, released his
first independent album entitled “Thuggin' Under the Influence” in 2001, which
was followed, two years later, by “Come Shop Wit' Me”. The latter sold, at that
time, 50,000 copies worldwide. His 2005 album “Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101” was the one that propelled him
towards stardom, since it debuted at number 2, with 172,000 copies sold in the
first week from its release.
As for his personal life, in 2006 the rapper was charged of
carrying a firearm without a permit, after having allegedly been involved in a
shootout in Miami Beach, Florida.
This year, in June, he was arrested again for speeding,
reckless driving, no tags and driving with an open container. He made bail and
was released the same day.
