Jay-Z Supports His Fan Barack Obama With Free Shows

After Barack Obama recently claimed Jay-Z was one of his favorite artists, the Hip-hop Jay-Z got involved in the upcoming U.S. presidential election and will be showing his support to the Democratic presidential nominee by staging two free concerts over the weekend.

The seven-time Grammy Award-winning artist will take the stage first on Saturday (October 4) at Detroit's Cobo Arena and will promote voter registration, encouraging attendees to get involved in the Obama campaign.  The 8:30 p.m. show is free, but tickets are required. Anyone interested in attending the concert, open to residents aged 18 and older, can obtain tickets at a variety of Obama campaign offices starting Wednesday afternoon.

Jay-Z will then perform at Miami's Bayfront Park Amphitheatre the following day. Like the Detroit concert, tickets will only be available from Obama’s campaign offices in the region. According to a campaign spokesperson, one doesn't have to be a registered voter to get tickets.

Voter registration for the upcoming election on November 4 ends Monday. The Obama campaign has been busy organizing a number of events around the state to pump up the voting rolls. The campaign estimates it has registered 135,000 voters, though GOP officials question whether they will show up on Election Day.

Talking to MTV recently, Obama revealed  his admiration for hip-hop stars and their entrepreneurial endeavors.

"In the past, musicians often were commodities. They were just shuffled around…they did well, but they didn't have the vision to say, 'I'm going to build a business. I'm going to build my own studio. I'm going to create my own production operations.'

"I think they're a lot more sophisticated than in the past, and that is a wonderful thing," Obama was quoted by MTV as saying.

Just the other day, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel announced an Oct. 16 fundraiser at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom in support of Obama, who is expected to attend the concert.

Springsteen has long admired the Illinois Senator, saying he has all he thinks it takes to be President, "the depth, the reflectiveness and the resilience."

"He speaks to the America I’ve envisioned in my music for the past 35 years," the singer told fans on his website in April.
