Hip hop singer Jay-Z announced he plans to perform two free concerts this weekend with the goal of backing Senator Barak Obama in his bid to become the United States president.
The two pro-Obama concerts will be held in Detroit and Miami and they are part of a voter-registration drive on behalf of the Democratic presidential nominee.
The first concert will be held on October 4 at Detroit’s Cobo Arena. Then, Jay-Z will rock the house at Miami's Bayfront Park Amphitheatre on October 5.
Jay-Z – real name Shawn Corey Carter – is the latest artist to join the list of Obama supporters. Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel were among the latest addings on the pro-Obama list of artist. The two announced Tuesday their intention of performing in an October 16 joint fundraiser concert at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom.
Jay-Z’s album, “The Blueprint,” was among the tracks contained by Obama. The two Jay-Z concerts will be held in key states for the presidential campaigns: Michigan and Florida. Both states have October 6 registration deadlines.
Bruce Springsteen will also perform in a separate gig to support Obama this weekend in Philadelphia.
Jay-Z is one of the biggest names in the hip hop music industry. The 38-year-old rapper was the CEO of Def Jam Recordings and Roc-A-Fella Records and now co-owns The 40/40 Club and the NBA basketball franchise the New Jersey Nets. He is one of the most financially successful singers in the United States.
Diddy is also the producer and host of MTV's “Making the Band” series and was Forbes' richest hip-hop mogul last year.
