They may be Mr. and Mrs. now, there might be telling signs
and speculation but Jay-Z and Beyoncé Knowles have yet to confirm the supposed
Friday, April 4, wedding in New York.
After a week of speculation regarding an imminent change of
marital status for Beyoncé and Jay-Z, the two musicians apparently wed Friday
in New York.
The buzz started Tuesday, when People magazine reported the couple had taken
out a marriage license in Scarsdale,
N.Y., valid for 60 days.
A friend of the couple’s revealed the news to People last
week and another friend shared Friday that a very private wedding had taken
place: “It happened earlier this evening. Jay wanted it to be a really private
affair – close friends and family.”
R’n’B singer Mary J. Blige, who was been touring with Jay-Z on
the “Heart of the City” tour, was on stage Saturday, in Greensboro, N.C.,
when she shouted to the audience: “Congratulations to my man, Jay-Z, and my
girl B,” before starting to sing.
Jay-Z did not say a word about his supposed marriage to Beyoncé
the previous day and conscientiously stuck to his own performance.
People magazine reports that the small wedding ceremony was followed
by a lavish party at the hip-hop mogul’s Tribeca apartment, where family and
friends gathered to celebrate the happy occasion.
Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles, her father/manager Mathew and
her sister Solange were joined by the bride’s Destiny’s Child members Kelly
Rowland and Michelle Williams, and the couple’s friend Gwyneth Paltrow,
presumably joined by husband Chris Martin, who collaborated with Jay-Z on his “Kingdom
Come” album.
Beyoncé, 26, and Jay-Z, 38, have been together since 2002
and they have managed to keep refreshingly discreet about their relationship. They
have also shared their willingness to marry someday.
Beyoncé told InStyle magazine that same year something of
the male psychology from her perspective: “You can’t rush a man into anything -
whether it’s a relationship, marriage or having children. When he’s ready,
he’ll let you know.”
Jay-Z in turn said last September, when asked about plans to
marry that it would happen “One day soon — let's leave it at that.”
The honeymoon may have to wait a little, as Jay-Z is busy
touring with Mary J. Blige until early May, while Beyoncé is working on a new
film, portraying famed blues singer Etta James in the film “Cadillac Records.”
