Janet Jackson will embark on her first tour in seven years this fall, opening in Vancouver, British Columbia on Sept. 10 and with dates in New York and Washington, among others which are to be announced.
Janet Jackson announced her touring plans Monday, telling the Associated Press she had actually intended to do a tour in support of 2006’s “20 Y. O.,” which she ultimately abandoned at the request of her record label.
Under those circumstances, she headed back to the studio and started work on what is now her latest studio album, “Discipline,” released in February.
“We were actually in full-blown tour rehearsals at that point,” Jackson said, and she and her team had to “shut everything down” so she could go in the studio.
The wait will be worth it though, she said, telling the AP fans will revel in a “big production,” as they have already gotten used to, but also “something that I’ve never done before, that people have never seen from me before.”
Tickets for the “Rock Witchu” tour go on sale June 7. While few dates have been announced, the singer, who turned 42 this month, hopes to travel the world.
“Discipline,” her tenth studio album, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in late February, becoming her sixth to top the chart. Madonna and Mariah Carey are the only other female artists with six US number one albums, behind Barbra Streisand’s yet-unbroken record of eight chart toppers.
Jackson collaborated with Rodney Jerkins, who produced the single “Feedback,” and guest producers Jermaine Dupri, Ne-Yo, Stargate, Tricky Stewart and The-Dream. “Feedback,” the album’s first single, reached No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Jackson last took to the road in 2001, in support of “All for You.” The North American tour was among the highest grossing of that year.
