R&B diva Janet Jackson gave fans a bit of a scare and a
bit more of a frustration by cancelling a string of shows in her ongoing Rock
Witchu Tour due to a mysterious illness that has now been revealed to be
vertigo.
Nearly three weeks after cancelling her first show in Montreal, hours before it
was scheduled to begin, after suddenly falling ill during sound check, Janet
Jackson is back on her feet and on the stage.
Her publicist explained Wednesday, finally, after weeks of
speculation regarding the nature of her health issues, which was never
disclosed, that she had been suffering from migraine-associated vertigo and
thus unable to perform.
She has not fully recovered yet, considering that she is still
receiving treatment for the illness, whose symptoms include dizziness and
imbalance, among others. She does feel better though, her manager, Kenneth
Crear said in a press release, and determined to get on the road again and
finish the tour.
As proof of this, Jackson
performed Wednesday night at the Verizon
Center in Washington, D.C.,
a two-hour show abundant in dancing, fireworks and of course, a well-rounded
collection of songs picked from albums she’s released during her 20-year
career.
Rock Witchu is Jackson’s
first tour in seven years and kicked off Sept. 10 in Vancouver, Canada.
Eight shows have been cancelled due to her illness, in Montreal, Boston, Philadelphia, Greensboro, Atlanta, Fort
Lauderdale and two more in N.Y. Before falling ill,
the singer cancelled one show in Detroit
in late September due to “production constraints.”
Fans have been asked to hold on to their tickets and wait
for news regarding rescheduled shows.
Janet Jackson is next expected to perform in Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, New York
and East Rutherford, N.J.
