The dinner held by BMI (Broadcast Music Inc.)Thursday night
to honor the Jackson
family could not bring together the whole clan. As expected, Michael Jackson
did not show up. And neither did Jermaine.
But all the others, Tito, Jackie, Marlon and Randy, who had
been originally known as Jackson Five, were present to pick their lifetime
achievement BMI award, during the Wilshire Theatre ceremony.
Asked by The Associated Press about the whereabouts of his
brother Michael, Marlon said he did not know.
"I think he's in Egypt riding a camel or
something," he added.
The Jackson Five — which included Michael along with Marlon, Jackie, Tito and
Jermaine — was a best-selling act that debuted on the 1969 album "Diana
Ross Presents The Jackson 5." The group had numerous hits from Motown
before leaving the label in 1976 and changing its name to the Jacksons.
Parents Katherine and Joseph Jackson were cheering and
applauding as Janet Jackson introduced her brothers on the stage at the 8th
Annual BMI Urban Awards. At one moment, she was overwhelmed with emotion and
had to pause her speech to regain her composure.
"Family is the most important commodity that all of us
have," she said after taking the stage as Ray J, Bobby Valentino, Mario,
and Lloyd sang "Never Can Say Goodbye."
She said she was so proud to be able to salute her brothers.
"I salute you for your talent and your musical gifts
you've given the world. I tell you that every time we speak. I'm so excited to
salute you!" Janet enthusiastically declared, as quoted by People.
On stage, Randy Jackson recalled the family’s glory days
when they used to be the kings of the music charts.
The brothers all showed their support for their absent
brother Michael and said they were eager to see his upcoming album launched on
the market.
“It’s going to be great,” Randy said.
