Academy Award-nominated actor Jake Gyllenhaal will star in the new film version “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.” Gyllenhaal got the lead role in the film based on the popular video game series.
Gemma Arterton, who is playing in Quantum of Solace the new film in the James Bond series, will star alongside Gyllenhaal in the movie produced and distributed by Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Walt Disney Pictures.
“Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” will be directed by Mike Newell, who also did “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” the fourth film in the popular Harry Potter film series based on J. K. Rowling's novel of the same name.
Jerry Bruckheimer, who alongside Walt Disney Pictures produced the “Pirates of the Caribbean” trilogy, described Gyllenhaal as "charismatic" and also said he has high hopes for Gemma Arterton.
Although there were rumors that Orlando Bloom will get the role, Gyllenhaal will play Prince Dastan in his adventure/quest to prevent the magical Sands of Time from falling into the wrong hands. Gemma Arterton will star as princess Tamina, who meets the prince and helps him in his quest.
Production of “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” is to start in July in Morocco and England.
Bruckheimer wouldn’t comment on the budget, but said:
"It's not one of our smaller productions."
