New Delhi - Controversial British reality TV star Jade Goody has withdrawn from India's "Bigg Boss" show after being diagnosed with cancer, media reports said Tuesday.
Goody, 27, was informed she was diagnosed with cervical cancer while appearing on the Indian version of the "Big Brother" on Monday night, the NDTV network reported.
The news channel reported that Goody flew back to London for treatment, making a quick exit from the show in the entertainment capital of Mumbai.
The CNN-IBN network reported that Goody had burst into tears after being told of the diagnosis by her doctor in London and told her housemates, "I have cancer." She had undergone medical tests earlier this month.
The beautician had decided to participate in the Bigg Boss, apparently to try and make amends for her alleged racist comments against Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty on last year's Big Brother show.
Goody had branded Shetty a "dog" and told her "to go back to the slums," during the show, evoking widespread protests over alleged racist bullying.
Her comments had caused uproar in India and Britain, with the issue figuring in the House of Commons and two Indian ministers demanding corrective action.
Shetty, 32, emerged the winner of the show after enduring weeks of foul treatment from Goody and the other contestants and is now working as the host of "Big Boss."
Goody visited India last year to make a public apology for her behaviour. She visited a slum cluster and interacted with physically challenged children at an institute in New Delhi.
She later announced that she had donated the "dirty money" earned on the TV show to a children's charity.
