Daredevil performer, television personality and hip-hop artist Steve-O pleaded guilty to cocaine possession on Tuesday.
As part of the plea deal, Steve-O - real name Stephen Glover – won’t have to go to prison, but instead will have to complete a two-year rehabilitation program, his attorney Barry Gerald Sands said. The 33-year-old stunt man is already in rehabilitation according to his attorney.
The "Jackass" co-star was put under arrest for vandalism and drug possession at his Hollywood home on March 3 after a quarrel with a neighbor over a fence. Steve-O was later hospitalized for psychiatric treatment.
According to the MTV co-star’s lawyer, Steve-O “is doing great” and has been sober for 85 days. His sentence of 18 months could get a little shorter if he behaves properly.
“He is a model individual. He has changed completely. He is a sober man," said Sands.
The 33-year-old "Jackass" stuntman wrote in a blog that his co-star Johnny Knoxville came to his home and “forced” him to seek medical help. He later checked into the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
The case against Steve-O will be dismissed when he completes the program.
“It will be like it never happened," his lawyer said.
Steve-O will remain in his rehabilitation program until the next court hearing on July 8.
The stuntman had several run-ins with the law until this particular case. He was arrested and jailed while in Sweden, because he admitted during an interview that he smuggled drugs into the Scandinavian country.
More precisely, he swallowed a condom containing cannabis to get it past the authorities.
