Things are looking well for Emmy and Golden Globe winning
series “24,” the show that has inducted its main character, Jack Bauer, into
pop culture in record time. The show was first broadcast by Fox Network in
November 2001 and has a revolutionary concept, as each episode covers 24 hours
in the life of Jack Bauer, presenting action in what is called “real time” in
the industry.
Jack Bauer is a government agent, who has worked with Delta
Force, LAPD SWAT, CIA and with the Counter Terrorist Unit. His activity with
the latter is the subject of the show. The agent is played by Kiefer
Sutherland, son of celebrated Hollywood actor
Donald Sutherland. Except for their striking physical similarity, Sutherland
Jr. appears to have inherited his father’s innate acting talent.
“24” has featured six seasons so far, and has been off the
air for two full years now. For those of you who don’t remember, Jack Bauer
saved almost all of the United States
from nuclear attack – except Valencia,
California. Fox has announced
that they have picked up the show once more and are preparing to start airing
it again as early as January 2009. The show will begin its seventh season with
the broadcast of two episodes, on January 11 and January 12. For the anxious
die-hard fans of the show, a prequel for the seventh season will be aired on
November 23rd, called “24: Redemption.”
The show has undergone an unlucky streak, as its return was
impeded by several events. The producers were arguing over the story line at
first, and their efforts were then toppled by the lengthy writers’ strike.
Kiefer Sutherland also served a jail sentence, temporarily preventing Jack
Bauer from returning to your screens. And to top it all off, Joel Surnow, who
was the co-creator of “24,” has quit the series. However, “24” is back on its
feet and Fox has decided to start broadcasting the popular show once more.
