One of the most successful American TV series of all times is hit show “Star Trek”. The popularity of the show prompted almost fanatic behavior from die-hard, avid viewers.
Conventions are held all through the year, be they official or not. The official one is held annual, and the dress code is simple – anything Star Trek! Most cast members are also presents, either in character or as themselves. Costumes are still being produced and are still selling like hot cakes. People are still using words from dialects used on the show in real-life random conversations.
Given the wide-spread, long-lasting success of the show, it was a matter of time before someone decided to make a feature film based on the television series.
The director, J. J. Abrams, has made a controversial comment to several journalists on Monday evening – controversial given the movie that he is currently directing. The director claimed that he himself had “never been a fan of ‘Star Trek’”. J. J. Abrams is famous for quite a few action and sci-fi hit series, such as the ever-so-popular “Lost”, but also “Alias” and “Fringe”, shows for which Abrams is a creator and an executive producer.
The director finds that certain aspects revered by fans mean little to him, but they were apparently inserted into the movie to make it as legitimate as possible to the audience – which will consist of “Star Trek” fanatics, eager to compare it to the series.
The movie is a sort of prequel, as it recounts the adventures of Captain Kirk, Spock and the rest of the crew before the events in the original series from the 1960s. The budget of the movie was a whopping $150 million.
