Emmy Award-winning film and television producer, writer, actor, composer and director J. J. Abrams, wants to make a disaster flick involving an earthquake. The man behind Alias and Lost television series, as well as several prominent movies, is apparently going to helm the untitled Universal project as producer. He is currently directing "Star Trek," slated for a May 2009 release.
The only detail which was leaked is that it won't be a remake of the 1974 hit Earthquake, and it's highly unlikely that we will find out something else of importance about the project before it gets released. As he did with Cloverfield, J. J. Abrams will probably employ a friend to direct. As expected, relationships will be the focal point of the action movie, as in Cloverfield. J. J. Abrams is allegedly working with original Omen screenwriter David Seltzer on the project, whose name we may well find out when it hits the cinemas.
Jeffrey Jacob "J.J." Abrams, 42, is the son of Jewish television producer Gerald W. Abrams. He kicked off his career as a writer, with three high-quality productions: Taking Care of Business (1990), Regarding Henry (1991) and Forever Young (1992). He won two Emmys and a Golden Globe, all for Lost and debuted as a director with Mission: Impossible III (2006).
