Shia LaBeouf’s accident on Sunday is West
Hollywood created quite a furor, the more so when it was found
that his passenger was “Transformers 2” costar Isabel Lucas, but the young
actress has not voluntarily taken part in the discussions.
Actor Shia LaBeouf was involved in a multi-vehicle crash
Sunday in West Hollywood and suffered a
serious injury to his left hand as a result. It was determined that LaBeouf was
driving under the influence when the accident occurred but authorities have
cleared him of any blame.
The driver of the other car ran a red light and caused the
crash. “LaBeouf has been determined at this stage not to have caused the
accident,” said Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County
Sheriff’s Department.
The accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. at the intersection
of La Brea and Fountain avenues, when the “Indiana Jones” star made a left turn
and collided with another vehicle. Upon impact, his pickup truck rolled over.
Shia LaBeouf also suffered minor injuries to his head and a
knee but it was his left hand that required “extensive” surgery. He was taken
to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center
for surgery and is currently recovering.
His passenger, “Transformers 2” costar Isabel Lucas, and the
driver of the other vehicle, suffered only minor injuries.
Isabel Lucas returned on the set of the film Monday morning,
while Shia LaBeouf will need a 30-day convalescence period to recover.
Tuesday, Lucas was out in West
Hollywood with her boyfriend, “Entourage” actor Adrian Grenier,
when paparazzi spotted her and started asking questions abut the accident.
Isabel Lucas remained silent while Grenier replied that
“she’s ok, we’re good” and put an end to the impromptu interrogatory with a definitive,
“This is not the time for an interview,” according to usmagazine.com.
Shia LaBeouf, who “was exhibiting obvious signs of intoxication”
upon being arrested, was cited for misdemeanor driving under the influence. Luckily
for him, the other two persons were not seriously hurt, or else he would have
been cited for felony.
Whitmore explained officials are waiting for results of a
toxicology test before filing a formal charge.
