Another famous romance has come to an end. Paris Hilton and the guitarist of rock band Good Charlotte have called it quits after a nine-month relationship.

Although the two haven’t been seen together for almost a week now, the much-suspected breakup was confirmed only on Wednesday by the socialite’s publicist, Alanna McCarthy, who told the Associated Press that Paris Hilton and 29-year-old Benji Madden “remain very good friends.”

However, the reason of the sudden split is still unclear. But this little detail did not stop rumors from circulating, evidently. According to reports, there is a royal motive behind the affair. The hotel heiress and her rocker were reportedly planning to spend their New Year’s Eve in Australia, at the launch party of a new social networking system, Bongo Virus. Paris Hilton was said to be the host of the shindig, while her beau was due to take charge of the spinning.

Fox News cited a source close to the Australian company as saying that a certain celebrity may have intended to meet Paris Hilton at the bash. The person is none other that Prince William, whom the 27-year-old socialite was said to have befriended while filming her “My BFF” show in London.

Prince William’s interference in Paris Hilton and Benji Madden’s relationship may be just mere gossip, but the split is nevertheless official. And they do not seem to be very affected by the change, as paparazzi spotted both of them partying separately in Los Angeles just a few days ago.
