Soon after Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz announced they were “happily engaged,” rumors about a pregnancy started to spread.

A few days after the couple’s announcement, US magazine reported the younger sister of singer and actress Jessica Simpson was pregnant with her first child.

Representatives for the two had nothing to comment on the matter.

“We are thrilled to confirm their engagement and congratulate this happy couple,” a spokesperson for the couple told MTV News. “Beyond that there is nothing to say.”

MTV News also reported that Pete Wentz sent an e-mail to them denying the rumors and expressing his annoyance regarding the gossip magazines which always deform reality.

"There is a witch hunt for people to be pregnant whenever they get engaged in Hollywood," he wrote in the e-mail. “This is all news to me,” he added.

The magazines that started spreading the rumors claimed sources close to the couple told them the news.

The musical couple, who have been dating since 2006, have long been rumored to be engaged or expecting a baby, but the two never confirmed the gossip about their relationship.

A few days ago still, they wanted to announce their fans about their engagement through a message posted on FriendsorEnemies.com.

“We know there has been a lot of speculation recently about Pete and I and we wanted our fans to be the first to know, because you guys are the best,” the message read.

“Yes, we are thrilled to share that we are happily engaged. Thank you for all of your support and well wishes - it means the world to us. We consider this to be a very private matter, but we wanted you to hear it straight from us.”
