Yesterday, Intel made public its roadmap, and the processors and features that the company announced should really make competition wonder whether they will be able to keep up with Intel or not. The person that made the announcement was former Chief Technology Officer and current Vice President of the company, Mr. Pat Gelsinger.
According to the announcement, Intel will include a turbo mode feature for their future families of processors. This feature will allegedly make the processors boost their computing power without generating any excess heat.
According to Fox Business, Mr. Gelsinger said that “Our engineers have put together an incredible processing family here that will include a tremendous amount of new processor features all centered on delivering faster computer performance and terrific energy efficiency.”
Intel also announced that it will introduce a six-core processor dedicated to power expandable servers. This processor, called the Xeon X7460, will feature 16 MB of level 3 cache and will become available in September.
As far processors for handheld devices are concerned, the company announced the next generation of chips called Moorestown. Chips in this family will combine a computer processor, memory controllers and a graphic processor. The availability of this platform is scheduled for 2010. The main features that this platform will have to integrate are wireless connectivity, performance, software compatibility and broadband connectivity.
The guys at Intel predict that devices powered by this platform will be able to support games as complex as World of Warcraft.
