Chicago
police may have only one acknowledged suspect in the murders of the mother,
brother and nephew of Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Hudson, but some
hints point out that more than one person may have taken part in the tragic
event, the Chicago Tribune cited law-enforcement sources as saying.
Officials have concentrated on William Balfour’s actions on
Friday, the day the killings occurred, and his clashes with his estranged
spouse, Julia Hudson, Jennifer Hudson’s sister, as well as his relationship
with her relatives.
Investigators are trying to find out whether William Balfour
is the murderer of the three people and if he had an accomplice in the
slayings. In addition, it is still to be determined whether another person took
him to the West Side following the unfortunate event which happened at the Hudson’s South Side
residence.
According to the newspaper, witnesses said that William
Balfour drove his vehicle to the Hudsons' block
on Friday, where he showed up at approximately 7 a.m., but police found the
Chrysler later on parked outside Robeson High School, which is located about
one mile away from the spot where it had been initially seen.
Moreover, William Balfour’s girlfriend reportedly informed
police that her boyfriend arrived at her West Side residence shortly after the slayings
at the Englewood
house took place.
Darnell Donerson, Jennifer Hudson’s 57-year-old mother, and
Jason Hudson, the actress’ 29-year-old brother, were found shot to death on Friday
at their home. Julian King, Julia Hudson’s son, was at his grandmother’s place
when he disappeared. After police issued an Amber Alert for him and a 1994
white Chevrolet Suburban which had been linked to the murders, the 7-year-old
boy’s body was found on Monday Morning in the back of the mentioned vehicle,
which belonged to Jason Hudson.
The SUV was discovered on a West Side street, after a
citizen called in about a suspicious parked vehicle in the 1300 block of South Kolin Avenue
on Chicago’s West Side.
After performing an autopsy on the remains of Julian King,
the Cook County medical examiner has ruled the
death of Jennifer Hudson’s nephew a homicide, as the boy died of multiple
gunshot injuries to the head.
Although William Balfour, King’s stepfather, has not been
charged with the murders, he is being held in custody due to parole violation.
He is on parole after spending several years in prison for attempted murder,
vehicular hijacking, as well as possessing a stolen vehicle, according to the
Department of Corrections’ Web site.
Nevertheless, new information on Balfour’s criminal past has
been revealed on Tuesday. In June, while he was on parole for a 1999 attempted
murder conviction, William Balfour was detained by police for possession of
cocaine. Police found drugs in Balfour’s car after stopping him for high speed
driving. Officials were investigating some reported gunshots and, after
searching Balfour’s vehicle, they discovered a rock of cocaine.
However, the case was dropped in July, as a judge ruled that
police had no probable cause to send Balfour behind bars.
While Balfour is in police custody, Julia Hudson wrote on
her MySpace page that she took comfort in the fact that her son was next to her
mother and brother and that he was protected from all dangers.
“His lil soul is at ease, I take comfort in knowing that
Julian is with my mother and my brother and most of all the Lord and now he’s
my angel he’s protecting me.”
