Paris Hilton’s little brother, Barron Hilton, has been officially charged with DUI, misdemeanor driving with a .08 percent or higher blood-alcohol level, unlawful use of a license and unlicensed driving, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office announced Thursday.
A court date has been set for April 14, People magazine reports on its website. The charges stem from Barron Hilton’s Feb. 12 arrest in Malibu.
The 18-year-old was driving a black Mercedes on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu last month when another driver noticed him driving erratically, sheriffs said. When Barron stopped, the fellow motorist had him sit on a bus bench until deputies arrived.
Barron failed a field sobriety test; his blood-alcohol level was .14 percent, said L. A. County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore.
The California legal limit for a person over 21 is .08 percent, but for a person under 21, any blood-alcohol level is considered legally drunk. The DUI charge is a misdemeanor, but carrying a fake license is considered a felony.
Barron faces a maximum penalty of six months in jail for each count, People adds.
Paris’ own experience with DUI arrests and jail seems to not have had an impact on little Barron. His 26-year-old sister was charged with DUI in September 2006 and spent three weeks in jail for violating her probation. After serving time she insisted that jail “changed” her.
It was barely a week later after Barron’s arrest that another famous sibling got in trouble with the police. Young pop singer Aaron Carter, sibling of the more famous boy band member Nick Carter, was arrested last month by Texas police for investigation of marijuana possession, authorities said at the time.
Aaron Carter, 20, was driving his Cadillac Escalade in Junction, Texas when he was pulled over for speeding. A search of his vehicle revealed at least two ounces of marijuana, celebrity gossip site TMZ.com reported.
No word yet whether he has been formally charged.
