Ian McShane Joins "Kings" on NBC

“Deadwood” star Ian McShane is set to begin another project, with NBC’s drama series “Kings,” trade paper Variety reports.

Ian McShane will portray King Silas in NBC’s a pilot “Kings,” a modern-day take on the King David tale, Variety reports. Christopher Egan will play David, described as a “pure-hearted young warrior” by the Hollywood Reporter.

Michael Green (“Heroes”) wrote the pilot for “Kings” and is exec producing.

McShane won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of brothel owner Al Swearengen, a prominent character in the successful HBO drama series “Deadwood.”

His previous television roles include appearances on CBS’ “Dallas” and NBC’s “Bare Essence.”

“Deadwood” ran on HBO from 2004 to 2006; McShane followed this with “Shrek the Third” and “The Golden Compass,” to which he lent his voice, and “We Are Marshall,” a McG-directed drama starring Matthew McConaughey and Matthew Fox.

“Kings” is one of four dramas expected to be presented at NBC’s upfront on Wednesday, April 2, along with “Knight Rider,” “My Worst Enemy,” and “The Philanthropist,” adds the Reporter.

“Knight Rider” is a spin-off f the 1980s series starring David Hasselhoff; “My Worst Enemy” stars Christian Slater; while “The Philanthropist” was given a straight-to-series order before the strike.

NBC recently renewed “Chuck,” “Life,” “Heroes,” “The Biggest Loser,” “Celebrity Apprentice” and “American Gladiators” and according to the Hollywood Reporter, Wednesday’s presentation will also bring a deal with DirecTV to bring back “Friday Night Lights.”

“The Office,” “My Name Is Earl,” “Law & Order,” “ER” and “30 Rock” are also probably returning, while “Lipstick Jungle” does not appear to have much chances for a renewal, per the Reporter.
